1. Over-draining and recharging. You should only fully drain your laptop batteries once in a month. However, there are times when we forget that we are using a laptop and not a desktop. We leave the laptop powered on for even 24 hours plugged, or we leave it on until it dies down. This is a bad practice, considering that it can still depreciate. Any object fades in time and batteries are no exemption to that.

2. Power surge. Sometimes, we plug our laptops directly to AC without even removing the battery. This can sometimes be dangerous because AC stands for Alternating Current. You cannot tell if there is a sudden increase in voltage. Laptop batteries can only absorb certain levels of voltages. If you leave the laptop with the battery attached and plugged into AC, and if a power surge occurs, it will damage the battery, thereby reducing its lifespan.

3. Raspberry ants. Yes, there are insects who love eating electronics. A Raspberry ant is an example. It loves to stay behind light switches, any warm area, and electronic devices. These ants can go inside your laptop’s power supply and into your hardware. They can put dust and even their own dead bodies on the electronic parts like on the motherboard. It can sometimes attack the battery. If this happens, then your only option is to buy a new battery or even a new unit.

4. Over-plugging devices to your laptop. Laptops can only supply certain maximum power level to the devices that you might attach to it. Usually, those that eat up power from the laptop are external devices like external drives, mouse, printers, and coolers. Of all these, coolers are more damaging because they require more energy than other devices. Your battery will quickly deteriorate if you often use this.

It would be a good practice to read the manual of your laptop concerning the maintenance of your battery first before you even use it. This will ensure that you have a long laptop battery life.
